Abstract

Evaluating faculty members is one of a department chairs least favorite and yet most important tasks. Faculty evaluations can be time-consuming, anxiety-producing (for Bothe the chair and the faculty member), and extremely limited in their impact. But they don't have to be. There are practices that chairs can adopt to make the entire faculty evaluation process, if not easy, at least easier and more effective.
