AERC 2016 Graduate Student Research Award

Call for Graduate Student Award Applications Guidelines and Eligibility

Purpose

The Graduate Research Award is designed to encourage, support, and recognize students’ research contributions at the Adult Education Research Conference (AERC). Only papers that are accepted for presentation at 2016 AERC will be considered for the award.

Eligibility

  • Applicants for the award must have been enrolled in an adult education (or closely related) graduate degree program between June 2014 and December 2015. Individuals who have graduated during this period are also eligible
  • A graduate student may apply if, and ONLY if, his/her proposal has been accepted.
  • Graduate student papers that were accepted for presentation at the 2016 AERC conference are not automatically considered for the award.

Review Criteria

The AERC Steering Committee will review the papers based on the following criteria:

  • strong and clear purpose statement
  • methodological soundness
  • content organization
  • readability
  • evidence to support inferences and conclusions
  • relationship of the research to adult education literature and theory
  • implications for adult education

Procedures

In order to be considered for the graduate student award, the student must submit the following by March 18, 2016: (Deadline extended to March 25, 2016)

  • Prepare Graduate Student Award Application document (Word or PDF) with the following information:
    1. The names and institution affiliation of all author(s)
    2. A statement of intention to be considered for the Graduate Student Award
    3. Information about the author(s):
      • Names
      • Institution affiliation for each author
      • The advisor’s name
      • The date of graduation, if applicable
    4. A statement that all authors have been graduate students in an adult education (or closely related) graduate degree program between June 2014 and December 2015 or have graduated during this period.
  • Log into your account: http://newprairiepress.org/aerc/
    1. You will see your proposal under "Events"
    2. Click on your proposal title and then select "Revise event" (See the panel on the left)
    3. Under "Submission Purpose," select "Graduate Student Award Application".
    4. Under "Full Paper," select "Upload file from your computer" to upload your full paper.
    5. Under "Additional Files," check the box so that you can upload your award application document on the next screen.
    6. Under "Update Submission," write the following reason for update: "Graduate Student Award Application"
    7. Select "Submit" button (You will be taken to another screen to upload supplemental content).
    8. Select "Browse" to upload a new file. Upload the "Graduate Student Award Application" document.
    9. Click the "Continue" button to complete your application submission.

The recipient(s) will be notified before the conference and receive the award at the business luncheon. The recipient(s) will be expected to present the paper during the conference.
