North Dakota’s rural grocery initiative conducted a survey modeled after Kansas State University’s study that was modified slightly to fit North Dakota as it is very rural. The findings presented challenges in affordability and availability of bread, milk, fresh meat cuts, and the problem of competition with big box store suppliers. Presenters discuss minimum purchasing requirements, primary suppliers, and next steps to improve healthy food access in North Dakota.
