Final Manuscript Preparation Guidelines for Literacy Connections

This document provides details on typesetting and layout requirements pertaining to final manuscript submission to Literacy Connections.

Formatting Requirements

  • Do not include a title page or abstract. (Begin the document with the introduction; a title page, including the abstract, will be added to your paper by the editors.)
  • Do not include page numbers, headers, or footers. These will be added by the editors.
  • Write your article in English (unless the journal expressly permits non-English submissions).
  • Use APA format 7th edition.
  • Submit your manuscript, including tables, figures, appendices, etc., as a single Word file
  • Include tables, figures etc. in the narrative of the text
  • Page size should be 8.5 x 11-inches.
  • All margins (left, right, top and bottom) should be 1.5 inches (3.8 cm), including your tables and figures.
  • Single space your text.
  • Use a single column layout with both left and right margins justified.
  • Font:
    • Title: 18 pt Times New Roman, bold, centered; first letters of all key words uppercase
    • Authors' names: 14 pt Times New Roman, bold italics, centered, each author on a single line, include author affiliation (ex: Suzanne Porath ~ Kansas State University)
    • Abstract: Indent, 12 pt. Times New Roman, single space
    • Keywords:: Indent, 12 pt. Times New Roman, single space, bold Keywords, regular font for the keywords, separated by a comma
    • Main Body: 12 pt. Times New Roman, single space, flush left, no paragraph indent; one line space between paragraphs
    • Headings within the articles: 12 pt. Times New Roman, single space, bold. Line space before and after heading
    • Subheadings - same as Headings, but period after word(s). No paragraph break.
    • References: 12 pt. Times New Roman, single space (i.e., no lines of space between references cited.)
    • Author bio: Add this following the References. 12 pt. Times New Roman, single space, italic. Ex: Dr. Suzanne Porath (sporath@ksu.edu) is an associate professor of the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, College of Education, at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS.   • If figures are included, use high-resolution figures, preferably encoded as encapsulated PostScript (eps).
