Final Manuscript Preparation Guidelines for The Advocate

This document provides details on typesetting and layout requirements pertaining to final manuscript submission to The Advocate.

Formatting Requirements

  1. Do not include page numbers, headers, or footers. These will be added by the editors.
  2. Do not include the abstract as part of the article text. This will automatically be generated and included with the article when a paper is downloaded.
  3. Write your article in English
  4. Submit your manuscript, including tables, figures, graphs, appendices, etc., as a single file (Word or RTF). Keep tables, etc., simple and photographs at high resolution.
  5. Page size should be 8.5 x 11-inches.
  6. All margins (left, right, top and bottom) should be 1 inch, including your tables and figures.
  7. Single space your text.
  8. Use a single column layout with left margins justified.
  9. Font:
    • Title: 18 pt Times New Roman, bold, flush left; capitalize key words
    • Authors' names, affiliation: 14 pt Times New Roman, bold italics, flush left, one per row:
      Ex:
      Tom Smith, Kansas State University
      Bob Jones, Wichita State University
    • Include author bio in 12 pt. Times New Roman, single space, italic, one space below author name Ex: Paula Professor is an assistant professor in the Department of Elementary Education at Any College University, Anytown, KS.
    • Main Body: 12 pt. Times New Roman, single space, flush left, no paragraph indent; one line space between paragraphs
    • Headings within the articles: 12 pt. Times New Roman, single space, bold. Line space before and after heading
    • References: 12 pt. Times New Roman, single space (i.e., no lines of space between references cited.) References should follow APA formatting guidelines (7th edition)
  10. No page breaks between references, appendices, and article body.
  11. Proofread your manuscript.
