Event Title
Touring the Kansas River with the Kaw
Start Date
28-2-2015 10:30 AM
Description
The Kanza Language and Landscape working group consists of an informal group of individuals with a wide range of backgrounds and expertise, but sharing interests related to the Kansas River and the people for whom it was named. Several projects have developed through our conversations including a virtual tour of the Kansas River. This exploration of the local landscape incorporates historical, cultural, and, importantly, linguistic information pertaining to the Kanza (Kaw) Indians. Not only is this a cross-disciplinary project drawing together the humanities and social sciences, but is designed for the modern Kanza and the public in general. The tour, demonstrated in this presentation, utilizes Google Earth’s Tourbuilder, which provides a useful tool for visualizing, hearing, and discussing geographically based information.
