2018: Powerful Dialogue – Engaging Community Issues in Polarizing Times
Presentation Title
Reflections on a Community Experience of Deliberation on Reservoir Health
Keywords
community engaged scholarship, leadership, deliberation
Description
In 2017, using a National Issues Forums framework for public conversations on water, facilitators at Milford Reservoir offered a different “informal science” approach to increasing environmental awareness and reflection. This discussion examines how the NIF comparison of hypothetical policies and framed approaches to a problem was received by a community with an immediate, high-stakes water quality issue to resolve, and what can be learned about stages of discovery and action planning.
