Presentation Title
Cooperatives: The Business Model that Built Rural America and the Role They Play Today
Keywords
Cooperatives, Food policy, Nutrition education
Description
The presentation covers the 2-year process to get to the point of rolling out the North Dakota Pilot Project. The process includes surveys, geo mapping one on one grocer interviews, getting buy-in for the project. Meeting with distributors etc.
The co-op portion covers the co-op principles, with an emphasis on education and cooperation among co-ops. Coops can only work with education of governing bodies and communities.
I also discuss the distribution co-op that NDFU member co-ops organized to gain some control over distribution companies that service convenience stores. This model helps reduce the competitive advantage that chain stores operate under.
