Philosophy of Cyberbiosecurity Quarterly

Cyberbiosecurity Quarterly serves as a cross-sector journal fostering collaboration between cybersecurity experts, bioeconomy researchers, and policymakers. See our Aims and Scope page for more detail.

Who Can Submit?

Anyone may submit original work to be considered for publication in Cyberbiosecurity Quarterly, provided they hold the copyright or are authorized by the copyright holder. Authors typically retain copyright unless otherwise governed by an employment agreement.

General Submission Rules

Submissions must not have been previously published or be under review elsewhere. Publication in a working paper series does not disqualify a manuscript. By submitting to this journal, authors agree not to submit the work elsewhere during the editorial review process.

Formatting Requirements

Initial submissions may follow flexible formatting guidelines. Upon acceptance, authors must revise their manuscripts in accordance with our Final Manuscript Preparation Guidelines. Submissions should be uploaded as Microsoft Word, RTF, or high-quality PDF files. While limited technical support is available, authors are responsible for preparing submission-ready files.

Rights and Licensing

Authors retain copyright and grant Cyberbiosecurity Quarterly the right of first publication. Articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC) license, allowing for sharing and reuse with attribution for non-commercial purposes.

Permitted Uses by Authors

  • Storing or backing up articles on personal or institutional computers and storage systems
  • Posting articles on a personal, non-commercial website
  • Archiving articles in an institutional repository or subject-specific open access archive
  • Using articles in classroom teaching materials, including course websites

For other uses or questions regarding reuse, please contact the editorial team.

Open Access Policy

Cyberbiosecurity Quarterly provides immediate and free access to all content, in alignment with our belief that knowledge should be accessible to all in order to support innovation and safety in the life sciences and cybersecurity domains.

Archiving and Preservation

All content is archived through:

  • CLOCKSS – Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe
  • LOCKSS – Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe
  • Portico – Digital preservation service

Once published, articles are preserved in perpetuity and will not be altered.

AI Use Policy

Cyberbiosecurity Quarterly is committed to upholding the integrity, transparency, and reliability of scholarly publishing in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. In alignment with best practices, the journal requires clear disclosure of the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and technologies in all submissions.

1. Attribution and Transparency

Authors are expected to report their own original work and ideas. Any contributions from AI tools or technologies must be clearly disclosed.

AI involvement should be described in a dedicated section of the Methods or, where a Methods section is not applicable, in the Acknowledgements.

Disclosures must include:

  • The name(s) of AI tools used
  • A description of how the tools were used
  • An explanation of how the authors validated the outputs
  • A statement identifying the specific aspects of the submission (e.g., text, data analysis, visualizations, supporting files) that were influenced or generated by AI

2. Author Responsibilities

When Large Language Models (LLMs) or other AI technologies contribute to manuscript preparation or analysis, the submitting authors remain fully responsible for ensuring that:

  • The content is accurate, valid, and free of fabricated data
  • The work does not constitute plagiarism or uncredited reproduction of prior works
  • All relevant sources are properly cited
  • All claims (hypotheses, interpretations, results, conclusions, limitations, and implications) reflect the authors’ own intellectual contributions

3. Prohibited Uses

The use of AI tools to fabricate, falsify, or misrepresent research data is strictly prohibited. Any such activity constitutes a serious breach of scholarly integrity.

4. Noncompliance

Failure to comply with this policy will be considered a misrepresentation of contributions or results. In such cases, the editorial board may:

  • Reject the submission prior to publication
  • Retract the article after publication
  • Publish an editorial notice
  • Notify the authors’ affiliated institutions as appropriate

5. Ethical Considerations in Cyberbiosecurity

Given the journal’s scope, authors must pay particular attention to the potential biosecurity and cybersecurity risks associated with AI use. Submissions should discuss, where relevant, how AI-assisted methods safeguard against risks of misuse, dual use, or compromised data integrity.

General Terms and Conditions of Use

Users of the New Prairie Press site agree not to misuse the site or journal content. The journal and platform reserve all rights and protections outlined in the Submission Agreement. If any portion of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remainder shall remain in full force and effect.
