Final Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

This document provides details on typesetting and layout requirements for final manuscript submission to Cyberbiosecurity Quarterly.

Formatting Requirements

  • Do not include a title page or abstract. Begin the document with the introduction. A formatted title page with abstract will be added by the editors.
  • Do not include page numbers, headers, or footers.
  • Submit in English (unless non-English is explicitly allowed).
  • Submit as a single file in Microsoft Word, RTF, or PDF.
  • Page size: 8.5 x 11 inches. Margins: 1.5 inches on all sides, including for figures and tables.
  • Single space your text. Use a single-column, left- and right-justified layout.
  • Font: Main text in 12 pt. Times or similar; footnotes in 10 pt.
  • Use high-resolution figures. EPS preferred, or embed in the document near their first mention.
  • Proofread and copyedit carefully before submission.

Style and References

Cyberbiosecurity Quarterly uses the Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition), Author-Date format, by default. All references must conform to this style unless otherwise required by an editor or special issue.

  • Use the author-date citation style in the body of your manuscript.
  • Include a complete reference list at the end of the manuscript, using hanging indents.
  • Include DOIs for all journal articles, reports, or datasets when available.
  • Example (journal article):
Smith, John. 2023. "Cybersecurity in Bio Labs." Journal of Digital Biosecurity 12(3): 45–67. https://doi.org/10.1234/jdb.2023.0032

For more formatting guidance, visit the Chicago Manual of Style Citation Guide.

Additional Style Recommendations

  • Indent all paragraphs except after section headings.
  • Avoid extra space between paragraphs (except for block quotes or figures).
  • Use italics for emphasis. Avoid underlining and colored text.
  • Figures and tables should be embedded near first mention. Ensure legibility in black and white printing.
  • Footnotes (if used) should appear at the bottom of the page, single spaced, in 10 pt. font.

Mathematics and Symbols

Use italicized Roman letters for variables, and non-italic for function names. Equations should be numbered consistently and appear in display format if complex.

File Preparation

  • Ensure all track changes and comments are removed.
  • Save your manuscript using the following naming format: Lastname_CyberbiosecurityQtr_YYYY.

Length and Supplementary Materials

There is no formal page limit, but authors should aim for conciseness. Supplementary data, figures, or code may be included as appendices or submitted alongside the main manuscript.

Final Checklist

  • ✔ All references use Chicago Author-Date style and include DOIs
  • ✔ All figures and tables are legible and embedded
  • ✔ Manuscript is clean, copyedited, and in an accepted file format
