Navigating Through Our Cultural Understanding – A Diversity Game Rooted in Engagement

Description

The presenters Mirta Chavez and LaBarbara Wigfall created this diversity game in response to their combined 40-years of experiences in diversity, intercultural learning and inclusion working with diverse students and faculty populations. They have presented this game at two international engagement conferences with extremely positive response and interest in securing the game from participants. This session will be a test of the game with two simultaneous instances for student and faculty teams. The interactive demonstration requires that participants engage in the game in a safe space. It is designed to test participants’ cultural acuity (understanding and knowledge) in a number of settings on a human scaled board. The game can be infinitely configured for various age groups to play in teams or individually, with or without hand cards. Regardless of the community stakeholders, this engagement tool is meant to help people be more effective at evaluating their own perspectives in a fun setting as they openly voice their opinions without condemnation.
