The International Journal of School Social Work (IJSSW) is a dynamic, free, open-access online journal dedicated to advancing the field of school social work through the dissemination of high-quality, peer-reviewed research. With a mission to expand both the quantitative and qualitative research base supporting school social work services worldwide, IJSSW serves as a vital resource for practitioners, researchers, and educators committed to improving student outcomes through evidence-based practice.

In an era where accountability and data-driven interventions are increasingly emphasized, access to current research is not just beneficial—it’s essential. IJSSW meets this need by removing the barriers of paywalls and subscription fees, ensuring that school social workers everywhere—from rural districts in the U.S. to urban centers across the globe—can engage with the latest findings, innovative practices, and emerging trends in the field.

This open-access model is especially critical for practitioners who may not have access to university libraries or costly academic databases. By democratizing knowledge, IJSSW empowers school social workers to make informed decisions, advocate effectively for students, and contribute to the growing body of research that shapes policy and practice. Whether you're a seasoned professional or a new graduate entering the field, IJSSW offers a platform for learning, collaboration, and inspiration—accessible to all, regardless of geography or institutional affiliation.

Our mission is to support knowledge that encompasses global perspectives on school social work. We need your support to increase access to these perspectives and disseminate knowledge. If you are an experienced writer and would be willing to co-author with a scholar or practitioner from another part of the world please fill out this form. We understand that authoring a text in English can be a barrier to publication and we want to provide support for this process. If you would like to be paired with another scholar or practitioner for co-authorship or support, please click on the link below.
